They wanted to do their engagement portrait session around campus, where their relationship got its start. We managed to select one of the few snowy days so far this winter, and since it was during winter break, we pretty much had the place to ourselves. So here’s the deal, Dartmouth friends: if you can tell me five of the locations on campus where these images were taken, I’ll buy you a coffee and pastry at King Arthur Flour. If you can also tell me the one spot in Vermont where we were, that’ll get you a drink at the Canoe Club, one of Elise and Sam’s favorite spots. Elise and Sam were so comfortable in their relationship that they kind of forgot I was there. I lost count of how many snow flakes I Photoshopped out of Elise and Sam’s faces. The center stone in Elise’s ring is surrounded by smaller diamonds, as is the band. It is a beautiful ring and emblematic of Sam’s love for Elise. No hints on from where this portrait was made. Elise and Sam are 2010s (Sam went on to get his masters at The Thayer School of Engineering at Dartmouth) and I probably took their photos during commencement. By chance I also got a great photo of them at Reunion this year—before we knew each other and before they’d asked me about wedding photography. It’s a small photographic world. Winter portraits often lend themselves to black & white images. So timeless and fun. Congratulations Elise and Sam! I am so looking forward to being with you in October when the fall foliage is at its peak!
